Lock rekeying and lock replacement
Rekeying makes every old key stop working while keeping the lock you already have. When a lock is worn out or not secure enough, we replace it.
Rekeying vs replacing
Rekey when
- You've moved into a new home
- Keys are lost or a housemate has moved out
- A tenant or staff member has left
- The lock works well and you're happy with it
Replace when
- The lock is worn, stiff or broken
- It was damaged in a break-in
- You want a higher security lock
- You're changing style, for example to a smart lock
How rekeying works
Inside a pin tumbler lock is a row of small spring-loaded pins. The shape of your key lifts each pin to exactly the right height so the lock can turn. When we rekey, we swap those pins for a new set to match a new key. Old keys no longer line up, so they won't turn the lock.
Rekeying is usually quicker and cheaper than buying new locks, and we can key several locks alike at the same time.
Landlords and agents
Between tenancies, rekeying is a simple way to make sure past tenants can't get back in. We work with landlords and property managers across Gladesville, Ryde and surrounds and can meet tenants on site.

Questions about this service
Is rekeying cheaper than replacing?
Usually, yes. You keep the existing lock body and only pay for new pins, keys and labour.
Can every lock be rekeyed?
Most pin tumbler locks can. Some cheap or very old locks are better replaced, and we'll tell you if that's the case.
How long does it take?
A standard house lock usually takes a short visit. A whole house or building takes longer, so we'll give you an estimate when we quote.
